Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a component of many therapies of traditional Chinese medicine that has originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy, called "qi” that circulates through twelve invisible energy lines known as meridians on the body. Modern training in acupuncture and our approach to practicing it utilize the progresses made in the science of physiology to enhance its impact on reducing and eliminating pain. Each meridian is associated with a different organ system. An imbalance in the flow of qi throughout a meridian is how disease begins. Modern science has allowed acupuncture to find a variety of applications in such fields as cosmetics, anesthetics, and analgesics.

How Acupuncture Works
As a therapy that is rooted in over 3000 years of tradition, acupuncture has solidified its position within Western medicine as a proven healing process. The World Health Organization (WHO) includes the elimination or reduction of pain, a greater sense of vitality and well-being as some of many benefits of acupuncture therapy.
Acupuncture can offer a safe, effective and natural way to prevent illness and help the body restore its self-healing ability. By targeting precise points on the skin with thin sterile and disposable needles, acupuncture can relieve physical, psychological and emotional problems.
There are numerous theories about how acupuncture works. Some of them are:

  1. acupuncture stimulates the release of pain-relieving endorphins which is a pain free method of treatment, which can also tonify the immune system for any future problems.
  2. acupuncture influences the release of neurotransmitters, substances that transmit nerve impulses to the brain
  3. acupuncture influences the autonomic nervous system
  4. acupuncture stimulates blood circulation
